EyeQue’s New AR-powered smartphone app, MyReaderNumber, is the first-of-its-kind solution enabling consumers to test for near vision and mid-distance vision.
NEWARK, CA – January 4, 2022 – Today EyeQue, the leader in at-home vision testing, introduced a first-of-its-kind smartphone app called MyReaderNumber that offers AR technology vision testing for presbyopia, a common age-related vision condition affecting 128 million Americans, more than 38% of the US population.
Presbyopia, which is a normal part of aging, begins around age 40 and typically worsens into age 60 and beyond. With presbyopia, people tend to have difficulty seeing up close and find themselves having to hold a menu, phone or a book at an arm’s distance to focus properly. One may also notice the computer screen becoming more blurry and needing to enlarge the text to see more clearly. While this is frustrating for many, it is a relatively common condition that can be corrected with simple magnifying lenses, i.e. over-the-counter readers. Left untreated, people may experience headaches, dizziness, or eye strain. Currently, consumers who want to get a pair of readers are usually choosing their glasses based on ineffective tests that self-evaluate their eyesight to determine what works for them. These unscientific methods are not proven and often do not provide an accurate or effective solution.
This is where EyeQue comes in.
EyeQue’s new AR-powered MyReaderNumber app delivers personalized measurements for both near reading distance and mid-distance (computer use) – customized based on the user’s age and distance preference. It’s good for determining the magnification needed for smartphone, reading, and computer use which enables the user to purchase over-the-counter (OTC) readers that best fit the individual’s needs. Using patent-pending, AR-based technology, the user simply captures two distances using their front-facing camera and sees results instantly. Users can then purchase over-the-counter reading glasses through local retailers, online stores, and also share the NVadd results with their doctors. The app has a $2.99 one-time download on the App Store (iOS only; available for iPhone X and newer) and can be shared with many users at no additional cost using Guest mode.
“Many people struggle with finding the right readers for their personal use. The MyReaderNumber app offers people the freedom to see clearly and pursue what’s important in their lives. This first-of-its-kind technology is delightfully easy to use and was developed using tried-and-tested optometry principles that delivers personalized results that are custom to the individual,” said John Serri, PhD., co-founder and CEO of EyeQue. “As EyeQue continues to expand access to vision care with our innovative technology, we look forward to introducing new products and services this year to stay on top of your eye health and help you see your best – all from your couch.”
EyeQue, the leader in at-home vision tests, has developed innovative technology using smartphone vision tests that give consumers the option to test their vision and order affordable eyeglasses based on their results. EyeQue introduced Try-On Glasses in 2020 which are a quick, low-risk way for consumers to confirm their vision tests results and then confidently order higher priced glasses from various online retailers like Zenni Optical and others. The EyeQue suite of products includes the EyeQue Vision Monitoring Kit, EyeQue VisionCheck ,and EyeQue Try-On Glasses, which are available for purchase on the EyeQue website and ship from their headquarters in California. EyeQue offers a 30-day money back guarantee on all of their products, including the Try-On Glasses.
EyeQue’s new MyReaderNumber app is patent-pending and registered with the FDA as a class I medical device with 510(k) exemption. It will be available on the App Store on February 1, 2022. To learn more, visit EyeQue.com and book a demo with the team at pr@eyeque.com.

About EyeQue
EyeQue is the leader of at-home vision testing, bringing affordable eye care to everyone. The Company is dedicated to putting accurate vision tests directly into the hands of people around the world. Based on MIT and EyeQue patented technologies, EyeQue’s intelligent vision solutions allow people anywhere to self-administer an expanding portfolio of vision tests using an optical smartphone attachment, mobile application, and a secure cloud-based processing and service center. The Company innovates from its Silicon Valley headquarters.
EyeQue does not provide optometry services, nor does it issue prescriptions or represent itself as a licensed optometrist. The EyeQue VisionCheck and EyeQue Personal Vision Tracker accurately measure for refractive error and detect changes between regular eye exams when properly used. EyeQue Try-On Glasses are intended to provide a tangible method for consumers to verify the clarity and comfort of the EyeGlass Numbers generated using their at-home devices. EyeQue refraction tests do not replace a comprehensive eye exam that evaluates ocular health and binocularity. EyeQue strongly recommends people visit an eye care professional annually to receive a complete eye health exam.
