EyeQue customer John lives in the Washington D.C. area and works for an agency that funds scientific research. Before studying physics at Stanford, his spent his early years near Chico in Northern California where he grew up on a farm. He would then go on to get his PhD in atomic physics at Harvard.
When he’s not working, John spends time with his family, including his wife, an elementary school teacher, and his two teenage sons. He also enjoys reading, listening to music, watching movies, traveling, and hiking in the mountains.
John would be “lost without his glasses”. He needs them for everyday activities, such as driving or working (e.g., reading, using his computer). “I have them on all the time,” he says.
Given his dependence on glasses, John is very specific about how well they work. In fact, he uses three different sets based on their purpose: one for the computer, another for general use, and the third for long-distance needs such as driving. He also updates them regularly to have the clearest vision possible, although he does enjoy trying new frame styles.
With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, John found himself limiting his contact with people outside his home; this included visits to his optometrist. In turn, this impacted his ability to keep his glasses up-to-date.
He found EyeQue while searching online for a way to test his vision at home. As someone in the science field, John was very curious about the technology used in EyeQue’s products. At first, he was a bit skeptical about the accuracy of EyeQue’s Personal Vision Tracker but was intrigued enough to order one just to see how it worked.
Initially, John ended up with perfect EyeGlass Numbers for one of his eyes, but he suffers from high astigmatism in the other eye. After experimenting at different angles, he got help from EyeQue’s team so he could get the results that he needed.
Using the money that he saved, he bought multiple pairs of glasses online. “The whole online [experience] allows me to get pretty good glasses for a lot less money. So, I could play around with the styles and try different things.”
John was also really impressed with the customer service at EyeQue. “Everyone I’ve interacted with has been great,” he explained. He honestly didn’t expect to encounter such dedication from an online company because “it wasn’t the normal frustrating experience”. EyeQue’s staff totally changed his mind about the type of service he could get online.
As a scientist, John is excited about how the technology that EyeQue is using could help bring better vision to many people from the comfort of their home.
